SUNBATHE
the people sunbathe on the beach
it is a hot day.
but who has been a rascal
and replaced the lotion
with acid?
their faces melt off
PLAYING ON THE SWING
the little baby laughs as it plays
merrily on the swing
mother nearby
talking of the best way
to clean red wine stains out of carpet.
the baby wants mother’s attention
but then a man comes
and wraps the chain around its neck
and pulls on its legs
until it dies
then he eats it
THE SANDPIT
the little boy plays with trucks.
a world created in the sand -
so fragile, so delicate.
comparable even to our own.
its lord more benevolent, more present,
infinitely wiser.
and the sandpit his universe;
the sum total of this new reality.
what could be outside?
grass: a metaphor for what?
an athletics meet on the field nearby,
the boy’s sandpit: the long-jump pit
this is analogous to what?
an...
AT THE RESTAURANT
i go to the fancy restaurant
and order a cheeseburger.
i know…
i know…
but -
a favourite food can only improve,
the greater the kitchen…
i wait
and wait
the waiter comes back
and the burger has eggplant and tofu on it
so I ram it down his throat
and kick his teeth in
SNAP, CRACKLE, POP
like milk poured into cereal like a teaspoon of sugar dropped into a fresh cappuccino like a magnet dropped into negative metal shavings like blowing on the fur of a kitten like a plastic bottle left out in the sun like a fibreboard box left out in the rain like a dog running into a flock of pigeons like a ball dropped in a puddle of mud like a sandcastle taken by the tide i’ve always enjoyed the...

A FAMILY AT THE RACES

A SPECIAL JOYFUL MOMENT
the girl pats the horse, dust the horse rips off her face, skin pulled from cold tomato soup. the dull teeth of the horse tear her open like a piñata. hooves - fused with forged steel - stomp her entrails like a child rubbing a naughty cigarette into the grass
